Size: Several hundred acre section of the 14,000-acre Patapsco Valley State Park
(PVSP).

Habitat: Upland deciduous woods, river bank, open areas, small pond.

Best Months: April, May, and September for birds. May through August for wildflowers; October for scenic views from overlook.

Coverage Time: Several hours to a half day.

Trails/Paths: Two miles of marked trails plus transmission line rights-of-way;
extensive day use and camping areas.

Notable Birds: Bald Eagle, Broad-winged and other migrant hawks, Kentucky Warbler, Wilson’s Warbler, Brewster’s Warbler, Blue Grosbeak.

Amenities: Restrooms (portable toilets in winter), picnic areas and pavilions,
playground, ball field, seasonal campground. PVSP Headquarters.

Handicapped Access: Good birding from paved park roads and parking areas. Paved path to overlook. Accessible restrooms (accessible portable toilet in winter).

Operation and Hours: The day use (fee) area south of US 40 is open 9:00 a.m. till
sunset. Access by car to the Headquarters building (non-fee) area north of US 40 is limited to 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on weekdays, otherwise the road gate is closed.

Special Attractions: Panoramic views of the Patapsco River Valley; interesting
wildflowers. Headquarters building sells maps and passes.

Bow Hunting: There may be a deer hunting season in the fall and winter.

Nearby Sites: Old Frederick Road, Daniels.
