Horned Grebe
Horned Grebe Rescue
When grebes and loons come down on land or very small bodies of water, they are helpless. The need a long “runway” in order to take off again.
Val Swan was notified by her neighbor that a Horned Grebe came down in a pasture and was need of rescue. Val and the neighbor were able to capture it, and Val released it in Springdale Quarry (which is large enough for the grebe to take off again.) Here is the video taken on February 21, 2025: Horned Grebe Rescue
While not necessary for common species, it is good to get into the habit of including photographs and recordings/spectrographs so that you do it for uncommon species that require more documentation.
