Black-necked Stilt
Sharps at Waterford Farm, May 6, 2026
In spite of blowing winds and rain squalls, Kurt Schwarz persisted in scanning Horseshoe Pond at Sharps at Waterford Farm, and located a Black-necked Stilt, only the second sighting documented in Howard County. After the Howard County Rare Bird Alert was sent, the bird was harassed by Red-winged Blackbirds and flew off, leaving Kurt and the others fearing the bird was gone. It later returned, and others were able to view and photograph it.
