What about cancellations?
Meetings at the Robinson Nature Center are cancelled if the Howard County Government has announced government buildings are closed and will not open for the day. For other venues where a Howard County Bird Club (HCBC) event was scheduled, the cancellation will be posted on the front page of the HCBC website in a banner headline and on the website calendar. Field Trips and Workshops may be cancelled at the discretion of the leader and announced in advance when possible. Trash Collection Day at Columbia Gateway and GE Retention Pond
March 18 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Staging and parking area: Curbside parking along Samuel Morse Drive at the southeast end of the pond, just south of the intersection with Columbia Gateway Drive.
Join us for a trash collection day at the Columbia Gateway and GE Retention Pond location on March 18th any time from 3-6pm. Why are we doing this? Because we bird here often and have been concerned about the mess. The surrounding Gateway area is also scheduled for significant development and construction in the near future. Our involvement in an effort like this may help magnify our organizational voice when we discuss green space projects in the Gateway area in the future. Wear waterproof knee boots, wear heavy gardening gloves, and consider bringing handheld pruning shears to navigate through all of the Multiflora Rose. If you have a trash pickup grabber or a heavy garden rake to reach trash along the water’s edge or other hard to reach places, please bring those tools to make our job easier. We will not go into the water and must be cautious along the water’s edge. If you are fortunate, you might be regaled by Red-breasted Nuthatches as you help clean up the area.
