Midwinter Count

MIDWINTER COUNT

Saturday, February 7, 2026

For the count, Howard County is divided up into the seven areas shown on the map.  Each area has an Area Coordinator who communicates with the counters, assigns territories, and compiles area results. If you are a beginner, ask to be teamed with a more experienced birder. Since the point is to tally every individual bird, your extra eyes and ears are helpful. If your time is not predictable for the Count, I encourage you to join a team or count as an individual in your yard or neighborhood for some time that day. If you decide to pursue this approach, please let me know of your intent and what constitutes your neighborhood. If you wish to count only at your feeder email Brian Moyer and request a feeder form.

The evening potluck tally will be at John & Meg Harris’s home, details will be distributed later for this. There will be a Zoom meeting link provided also for those who cannot attend in person. Park anywhere on the street, avoiding blocking fire hydrants and other driveways.

If there is a question about the weather, we will try to make a decision the night before. Contact your area coordinator if you are unsure of the status of the count.
