After parking at Worthington Elementary School, 42 participants made a short walk to set up chairs and a large cooler atop the grassy knoll of the former New Cut landfill, which offers a wide open vista and nearly unobstructed views of the western horizon. WEATHER: Sunset at 7:37 PM. Clear sky, 73°F with 51% humidity, and a gentle breeze out of the South GENERAL COMMENTS: Conditions leading up to the trip were not favorable for nighthawk movement. Winds had been variable and weak in the days prior and this day had preceded a string of exceptionally warm days. But despite the lack of nighthawks, we together made this as much a social event as a birding outing, and a good time and great conversation were shared by all. |
