Details: The day began mostly cloudy, about 39 degrees, no wind. We spent about two hours at Mount Pleasant, working the Davis Branch, the swale, watching the feeders, and by the wooden bridge. Sparrow number were moderate; the count of Dark-eyed Juncos seemed very low as well as White-throated Sparrows. Savannah Sparrows were fairly abundant along the Swale. Only one Swamp Sparrow was noted. As the morning advanced, the cloud cover reached 100%, and several commented that it seemed to be getting colder.
The plan was to adjourn to Centennial Park in hopes of ducks, but we learned that there were numerous ducks at Willow Green Pond, not far away. There we found 158 Ring-necked Duck, at least 4 Lesser Scaup, 1 Bufflehead, 2 Gadwall, 1 American Black Duck. We concluded with this stop. |
